We believe all Americans are born equal in rights and dignity
For decades we have mobilized powerful coalitions of people from diverse faiths and beliefs to fight back against degrading efforts to attack LGBTQ Americans and demand the right for us all to live with full dignity, safety and equal rights. Interfaith Alliance has long been a leader in LGBTQ advocacy, including a pre-Obergefell blue paper created by past Interfaith
Alliance president Rev. Welton Gaddy on same-sex marriage first published in 2009 and revised in 2013. Our current president Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush, is a nationally recognized leader in the fight for LGBTQ equality. We believe religious freedom should not be weaponized to harm LGBTQ communities, and have spoken out at the U.S. Supreme Court and Congress to ensure this message is heard by policymakers. We played an important role in passing the Respect for Marriage Act, which codified same-sex marriage and interracial marriage into federal law, in 2022. We are deeply concerned about increasing attacks on trans Americans, particularly our trans youth. We celebrate the inherent worth of all trans and non-binary people and recognize their right to gender-affirming health care.

Interfaith Alliance, together with Keshet and the National LGBTQ Task Force, leads the Faith for Equality Coalition. We are working with the broader LGBTQ rights movement to pass the Equality Act, which would expand LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections at the federal level, into law.
For the past several years, we have also organized Faith for Pride events to ensure that the faithful majority in favor of LGBTQ equality is heard.
